Which local listings to manage first in the US: Google, Apple Maps, and Bing Places, then Facebook and high-impact vertical or aggregator surfaces — before long-tail citations.

A local listing management publisher priority checklist tells you **which local profiles to claim and fix first** for nearby discovery in the US — usually Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, Bing Places, then Facebook and high-impact vertical or aggregator-fed surfaces — before expanding into long citation tails. Use this when you need order of operations for **local listing management** / **local listings management**. Definition hub: [What is local listing management?](/what-is-local-listing-management).

This is not another definition page and not a software ranking.

## Priority tiers (US default)

| Tier | Publishers / surfaces | Why first |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Google Business Profile | Dominant maps/local pack surface for most US categories |
| 1 | Apple Maps place cards | High-intent navigation / iOS discovery |
| 1 | Bing Places for Business | Bing/Maps + ecosystem distribution |
| 2 | Facebook local business presence | Customer-facing NAP/hours when used as a place surface |
| 2 | Major aggregators (as applicable) | Feed many downstream directories |
| 3 | Yelp / industry directories your customers actually use | Vertical research behavior |
| 4 | Long-tail directories | Only after tiers 1–3 are accurate and owned |

Adjust by vertical: restaurants may elevate Yelp; healthcare may elevate insurance find-a-doc tools. The principle stays: **local-intent surfaces before vanity submissions**.

## Checklist: tier 1–2 in order

1. Export or write the canonical local identity (NAP, hours, category, URL, status).
2. Google: claim/verify; fix material mismatches; set hours/categories truthfully ([representation guidelines](https://support.google.com/business/answer/3038177)).
3. Apple Maps: claim/manage place card; align NAP/hours/status.
4. Bing Places: claim/update; align NAP/hours.
5. Facebook: if the Page shows location facts, align them; do not leave an old suite live.
6. Record ownership emails in a company vault.
7. Spot-check public pages after edits ([hours help](https://support.google.com/business/answer/15300403) when publishing special hours).
8. Only then schedule aggregator / secondary work.

## What to defer

- Mass citation blasts before Tier 1 is clean
- Keyword-stuffed names on any tier
- Creating extra Google pins "for SEO"
- Paying for directories that never refer customers in your category

## Multi-location note

Run the same tier order **per location**, but govern name/category rules centrally. Plural **local listings management** still uses this priority model — just with location IDs and exception queues. See the [Local Listings Management Guide](/local-listings-management-guide).

## Evidence table: priority mistakes

| Mistake | Symptom | Fix |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Citations before Google claim | Wrong NAP replicated | Claim Tier 1 first |
| Ignoring Apple | iOS users see stale hours | Add Apple to monthly scan |
| Facebook forgotten | Old suite on Page | Align or stop showing location fields |
| One login for 40 stores | Lockout risk | Ownership vault + roles |
